JITRA: A 53-year-old Thai man was arrested on Saturday for attempting to smuggle 1kg of ganja over the border.

He was nabbed by an anti-smuggling unit team as he was driving to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam. Several slabs of ganja were hidden in the back seat of his Toyota Corolla.

A police spokesman said they believed the man was selling ganja he smuggled from Golok to drug gangs here. The spokesman said he was heading back to Thailand, and the ganja in the car was likely what was left over.

Besides the car, police seized RM4,467 (S$1823) and 900 baht (S$38.09).
