Three bogus cops nabbed

By Austin Camoens

JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA - Three men have been arrested for posing as police officers after they were found to be in possession of fake police identification cards.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Roslan Zainuddin said the first suspect was arrested after police spotted him behaving suspiciously during their rounds at about midnight yesterday.

The man was driving a red Proton Saga in front of a entertainment outlet in Taman Rinting at 12.05am.

"When we searched the car, we found a wallet containing a card which had the words Narcotics Department and the police logo on it," he said.

Supt Roslan added they arrested the two other suspects from Taman Rinting and Taman Desa Jaya a few hours later.

"We also found a fake sub-inspector detective's ID and a D9 sub-inspector's ID on one of the suspects," he said.

Police believe the men, aged between 25 and 45, were using the identification cards for extortion.

They are on the lookout for another two men.

He added that police seized the Proton Saga, which carried a tampered engine number, a blue Perodua Kancil, RM268, a metal police emblem and a plastic police emblem.

He urged anyone with information on the case to contact the nearest police station or call the police hotline at 07-2212999.
