SETIU, MALAYSIA - A 24-year-old teacher was slashed on the shoulder and left hand when he was attacked by a man with a machete in Kampung Selamat early Monday.

The teacher was returning home about 1.30am when the driver of a car rammed his vehicle into the former's motorcycle.

A passenger in the car then alighted and slashed the victim several times but the teacher managed to escape.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Shaikh Othman Abdul Hamid said the victim sought treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital where he was warded and discharged the next day.

The victim's mother, a 51-year-old nurse, lodged a report at the Sungai Tong police station.

She claimed her son had a misunderstanding with a man from the same village two days prior to the incident.
