BESUT, Malaysia - A visit to the Kuala Besut jetty turned sour for a 14-year-old girl when she was raped by three strangers on Sunday.

The Form Two student from Kampung Raja here left home on Saturday and spent the night at her friend's house before deciding to go sightseeing near the jetty, where she befriended a man.

District police chief Superintendent Kamaruddin Zakaris said the girl followed the man on his motorcycle after he offered to send her home.

He said the man took her out to dinner at Kampung Air Tawar before she agreed to follow him to the beach nearby. At the beach, they were approached by another two strangers believed to be the man's friends. The trio then took turns to rape her.

The first suspect sent her home later and when she was questioned by her mother, the girl confessed that she was raped.

The girl lodged a report at the Kampung Raja police station at 8pm the following day.
