KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA - An undergraduate student was tricked into having sex with a "religious officer" on Tuesday after being caught for close proximity with her boyfriend.

In the 10pm incident at the Teluk Ketapang beach, the victim was in a car with her boyfriend when they were approached by three men claiming to be religious officers.

They told the couple that they would be fined RM6,000 (S$2,457) for the offence but that the amount could be negotiated.

One of the "officers" asked the 20-year-old victim to follow him on his motorcycle to Tok Jembal, some 4km away, where he raped her.

Fortunately, the victim remembered the motorcycle registration number and reported the incident to the police a few hours later.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief assistant commissioner Mohd Fauzi Abduri said a 41-year-old unemployed man from Kampung Seberang Takir was arrested at 5.45am, a little more than an hour after the report was lodged.
