KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA - An undergraduate who was "caught" for close proximity on Wednesday night has claimed rape after she was induced into having sex with one of the "religious enforcement officers" to escape prosecution.

The 20-year-old university student had gone for a rendezvous with her boyfriend at the Teluk Ketapang beachfront at about 10pm on Wednesday when they were approached by the three men who claimed to be officers from the state religious department.

State CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Fauzi Abduri said the couple were sitting in their car when the three men ordered them to get out of their vehicle.

One of the men then told them they could be fined RM6,000 ($2,457) for committing khalwat but they were willing to waive legal action if the woman had sex with him.

In her report, the woman claimed she was raped at a secluded spot in Tok Jembal, about 4km from Teluk Ketapang.

She later realised that the men were imposters and lodged a police report the next day.

ACP Mohd Fauzi said based on the woman's report, police arrested a man to help in their investigations. The suspect, who is a salesman, lives near the beach.

Police were looking for two of his accomplices, he said.
