KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA - An anti-drug agency officer, responsible for arresting many hardcore addicts, was himself nabbed for drug abuse yesterday.

State Narcotics chief Supt Roslan Abd Wahid said the 30-year-old from the National Anti-Drug Agency was detained at a house in Taman Pusara Jaya here during an early-morning raid. Four auxiliary policemen and a woman, aged between 23 and 29, were also detained in that raid.

'The six were high on drugs during the 2.30am ambush,' he said.

Supt Roslan said police also seized eight plastic containers containing crystal pieces believed to be syabu weighing 2.5g and which has a street value of RM1,000 (S$409).

Supt Roslan said the raiding officers also found narcotic substances in the officer's pocket. 'The officer was also caught for having psychotropic pills last year,' he added.

In a separate raid, the wife of a senior Customs officer was detained for a drug-related offence.

Supt Roslan said the 44-year-old from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, was apprehended along the Sultan Mahmud bridge here at 10am on Monday.

He said the suspect was with a 45-year-old single mother from South Thailand when police intercepted their car along the bridge.

Supt Roslan said the two tried to escape but failed.
