KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant got the scare of her life when two men jumped into the car she was waiting in and drove off with her for about 5km before letting her go.

Police have ruled out kidnapping as the motive. The incident happened at the Damai commercial area here at about 3pm on Friday.

The woman, in her 30s, was waiting in a female friend's car with the engine running and doors unlocked outside a shop while the friend went to buy some things.

City deputy police chief Supt Rowell Marung said the two men suddenly jumped into the car and sped off towards Likas where they allowed the terrified woman to alight before driving away.

The women lodged a report at the Luyang police station and efforts were under way to track the car and the two men.
