KLANG, Malaysia: An unemployed man was fined RM3,000 by the magistrate's court yesterday for possessing a seven-inch knife last year.

Magistrate Afifah Mamat @ Yusof fined Irham Rappeng, 26, after he pleaded guilty to possessing the knife without a valid reason in Jalan Serunai 1, Taman Klang Jaya here, on July 19 last year.

Irham pleaded for leniency and told the court that he wanted to use the knife on a fishing trip.

Afifah ordered him to serve six months' jail if he failed to pay the fine.
