TAIPEI, Taiwan - A man was charged for sexually assaulting his neighbor by taking advantage of her being scared by his bizarre and ghostly appearance.

The suspect, a 39-year-old man surnamed Liu, sneaked into his neighbor's home at 4 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2008, after a few drinks and wearing only a white undershirt and patterned shorts. To cover his face from his victim, Liu pulled the undershirt over his head.

The victim told prosecutors that she was frozen by the vision of a manlike figure with a white head. Thinking that Liu was in fact a ghost, the woman did not dare to move even as he raped her. Only when Liu spoke to tell her not to be scared did she know that 'it' was a he. Yet she was still too frightened to move.

'After Liu left, the woman called her sister, who lived next door. As the sister ran toward the victim's residence, she saw Liu with his undershirt removed from his head and was able to identify him clearly.

'After committing the crime, Liu hid in the mountainous areas of Sanshia for five days and was on the run for six months.

Liu was charged by the Banqiao District Prosecutors'office for sexual assault.
