GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA: A 49-year-old man was believed to have been shot in his testicles when he tried to attack two policemen with a parang outside a toddy shop in Stewart Lane.
The victim, believed to be drunk, had earlier slashed one of his friends on the right finger with the parang during an argument in the 6.40pm incident yesterday.
Two policemen patrolling on a motorcycle saw the commotion and tried to break up the fight, but the victim charged at them instead.
It is learnt that one of the policemen fired a warning shot which hit the victim in the right thigh. Another shot is believed to have hit his testicles.
The man was then rushed to the Penang Hospital by Civil Defence Department personnel. His condition is reported to be stable.
State deputy CID chief Supt Nashir Ya said police had yet to ascertain whether the victim was shot in the testicles.
He said the policeman acted in self-defence.
