TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A woman and her lover charged with adultery were fined NT$1 million yesterday.

The woman was sued by her husband, surnamed Kuo, who requested NT$4 million after discovering his wife had cheated on him when he read messages on her cell phone, in June, 2008.

The woman and her lover admitted their mistake, but said they slept together just once.

Considering the evidence, the Taipei District Court concluded that a single case of adultery warranted a fine of NT$ 1 million.

The pair can appeal to a higher court if not satisfied with the verdict.
