GEORGE TOWN: A mobile prostitution ring which used Thai women to service clients was busted after police raided a motel in Simpang Empat.

A couple managing the motel, four Thai women between the ages of 25 and 30, and a local man, believed to be a pimp, were nabbed in the raid on Monday afternoon.

Police investigations revealed that the women frequented restaurants in the Bukit Minyak industrial area on the mainland to solicit for customers.

State police chief Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said police got wind of their activities following a tip-off and a task force was formed.

He said police managed to locate the pimp, a 46-year old local man, in Bukit Minyak on Monday and he later led officers to the budget motel where the women and couple were arrested.

"We also seized a list of customers' contact numbers from the pimp," he said.
