The victim, 19-year-old Darren Ng Wei Jie, was hacked repeatedly with choppers in a fight which reportedly took place between 5pm and 6pm. He suffered injuries to his left limbs and below his right rib cage, and died in Changi General Hosptial at 10.55 pm.
The attack was allegedly sparked off after Mr Ng, together with his two friends, got into a staring incident with a group of 10.
A verbal and physical confrontation ensued, leading to Mr Ng being chased before he was brutally hacked by the group.
A staff member from fast-food restaurant Just Acia said that two young men ran up the stairs leading to Sakura International Buffet restaurant's main entrance.
Sakura staff member Muhammad Irfan Ika, 18, saw the injured youth who later died.
He said: "He was sitting down outside the entrance and his friend was telling him to keep his eyes open. He was covered in blood and his cuts were deep."
The case has been classified by the police as murder, which carries the death penalty and investigations are still ongoing.
