Man goes amok and kills teenager

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia - A teenager was stabbed to death by a 23-year-old man who ran amok and attacked five people at the Telipok resettlement scheme here.

Azmil Roglim, 17, had just stepped out of the bathroom at his home on Tuesday when the man dashed at him and drove a five-inch knife into the boy's chest.

His mother, who had tried to shield him from the assailant, was stabbed in the abdomen.

The amok then charged at three other relatives as he fled from the house.

He was cornered by villagers at the squatter colony and handed over to the police late Tuesday.

Azmil's mother was warded at the general hospital here, where her condition was reported to be stable. The other victims were given outpatient treatment for their wounds.

"Everything happened so fast," said Azmil's distraught father, Roglim Arin.

"Only when it was all over did I realise that I had lost a son," he sobbed when met at his home yesterday.

He added that no one knew why their relative went berserk.

Azmil's remains have been sent for a post-mortem at the hospital here.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
