
A man believed to be involved in robbing from taxi drivers in the Bukit Merah estate has been arrested.
Police spotted the male suspect matching the victims' descriptions boarding a taxi Bukit Merah on Nov 9.
Responding officers arrested the suspect when the taxi pulled over along Bukit Merah Lane. A foldable multi-purpose knife and a mobile phone found in the suspect’s possession
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least five cases of robbery from taxis that were committed since late October this year.
In most cases, the victims had picked up the suspect in Bukit Merah before being directed to nearby locations.
Upon reaching the destination, the suspect used a knife to demand money from the victims before fleeing on foot.
The suspect will be charged for armed robbery which carries a maximum punishment of 14 years imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
