BreadTalk ex-manager jailed for taking $14,500

A former manager with BreadTalk was jailed seven months yesterday for misappropriating $14,539 from his branch.

Or Zhi Xian, a 24-year-old Singaporean, pleaded guilty last week to committing criminal breach of trust.

A district court heard last week that Or was the manager of the BreadTalk branch in West Mall shopping centre in Bukit Batok in January.

He was exposed after the company's finance department told the area operations manager that the sales proceeds of Jan 7, 10, 17 and 18 were not reflected in the branch's bank account.

Or initially lied that he had deposited the money, but confessed when questioned by police.

He had used the money to settle debts and pay for personal expenses. No restitution has been made.
