Man, 75, with contraband cigarettes tries to bribe cop

He tried to bribe his way out of trouble with $500 but was arrested.

On Tuesday, Corporal Muhammad Rasul and Sergeant Saliman from Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre were on their rounds around St George's Road when they spotted the man, 75, acting suspiciously.

They searched him and found 16 cartons of contraband cigarettes.

He offered $500 to the corporal in return for his release.

The corporal rejected the bribe and arrested him.

The man has been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and Singapore Customs.

Investigations are ongoing.
