SINGAPORE - They were the only women in an apartment of eight. On Tuesday night, one was found dead in the Geylang Lorong 9 apartment, while the other was arrested. The pair were roommates.
The 28-year-old woman was charged in court with murder on Thursday. The other tenants in the Kim Court apartment are male blue-collar workers.
A tenant, who wanted to be known only as Mr Low, told The New Paper on Wednesday that the tenants kept to themselves and that he had only seen one of the women once.
"It was about three months ago when she asked me whether she could use the gas stove (in the common kitchen). I had just woken up and told her yes," he said.
"I don't even remember her face and I didn't see her again as we keep different hours."
Both women are believed to be Chinese nationals.
A neighbour, who lives one floor above the unit, told TNP on Tuesday night that she had heard the women quarrelling loudly twice in the past month.
But Mr Low, who has rented a room there for about five months, said he was not aware of any commotion as he usually returned home late.
The Singaporean, who works as a storeman in a Changi warehouse, said there are six rooms in the apartment and that one of them had been left empty.
He returned in the wee hours of Wednesday and was shocked to see the police questioning tenants.
Said Mr Low: "Only then did I find out what had happened."
