M'sian toddler in coma after falling into manhole

MALACCA: A two-year-old child fell into a manhole at a resort in Alor Gajah.

The incident occurred at 5.30pm on Sunday when Mohd Izzat Amir Abdul Jalil was playing with members of his family.

The family had been staying in a bungalow lot in the resort for the holidays.

The manhole was 4m deep.

His uncle, who witnessed the incident, quickly helped Mohd Izzat out of the hole with the help of other family members.

"At that time, Mohd Izzat was still conscious and kept crying but he fainted on his way to the Tampin Hospital," said the uncle who declined to be named.

He was later transferred to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban and later to Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Sunday night.

An initial check conducted by the doctor revealed that Mohd Izzat suffered brain haemorrhage and a broken skull. It is understood that he underwent brain surgery and is now in a coma.
