'Striptease' on TV

MALAYSIAN TV station 8TV will be inquiring into an impromptu "striptease" act by a contestant of its popular reality TV talent hunt, One In A Million.

Harian Metro reported that the station will seek explanation from singer Faizal Tahir, who took off his jacket, singlet and belt before throwing them to the audience of 8,000 people at the station's fourth anniversary on Sunday.

The 30-year-old artist was among several singers invited to perform at Bandar Utama, suburb near Kuala Lumpur.

8TV chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar said he viewed the incident as a serious matter: "I was shocked and did not imagine that Faizal would do such a thing on live TV. The relevant personnel from the TV channel will meet him and demand an explanation for his actions".

Added Mr Ahmad: "Artists have actually been told beforehand that such acts are not permitted whether it is a live concert or a performance".

The Malaysian artist is no stranger to over-the-top acts.

In January, he slid across the stage when it was announced that two of his songs entered the final of a local singing competition.

The Internet was abuzz about the "striptease" act and some believed it was a very effective way to gain publicity.

Blogger Sisuahlai said: "He thought publicly exposing himself was the best way to win attention. And boy, was he right".

Another blogger, wiralution X, agreed and added on the forum carigold.com: "It is his fault. Who asked him to remove his clothes during the show? ?This is not the US or Europe. I guess this is what happens when you think you've become a big celebrity".

Netizen Si memotong rumput, meanwhile, said Faizal was a disgrace to his former group Mirwana, a which sang religious songs called Nasyid.
