M'sian sweeper finds foetus in drain

SUBANG JAYA, MALAYSIA: The foetus of a baby boy, which was wrapped in newspaper, was found in a drain near the Selayang wholesale market in Seri Kembangan here yesterday. Sweeper Hussin Amin, 45, said he was going about his duty about 9am when he spotted the suspicious-looking package in the drain.

"I saw blood near the package and when I opened it, I saw the foetus, which still had blood on it," he said.

Hussin immediately notified his supervisor, who then called the police.

The foetus, which had started to decompose, is believed to have been thrown there several hours earlier.

"We believe that the foetus was between four and six-months old.

"It has been sent to the Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem," a police spokesman said.

District police chief ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar confirmed the incident, adding that they were trying to track down the culprits.

Those with information should contact the Subang Jaya police headquarters at 03-89481421 or the nearest police station.
