IT'S the battle of the super mothers again at the Selat Klang state constituency - one who has nine kids and the other with six.
This is also a repeat of the 2004 general election for this seat under the Kapar parliamentary seat in Selangor.
Just like then Barisan Nasional's Norliza Ahmad, who is the incumbent, will face PAS' Dr Halimah Ali whom she beat by 6,085 votes.
Norliza is the one with nine children aged between six and 19 years old while Dr Halimah has six between the ages of 16 and 24.
The two plucky mums are also very enterprising and successful in their own right. Norliza plays an important role in her husband's transport business while Dr Halimah operates her own medical clinic at Kampung Delek.
They have also the blessings and backings of their husbands in their political venture.
"I think I have a better chance now than the last general election, especially when there are several local issues that have not been resolved by the government," the 46-year-old Dr Halimah said.
"The issue pertaining to the delay in the construction of the new school building for the SRJK Tamil Tepi Sungai will be one of the issues that I will highlight during my campaign," she said.
Dr Halimah said she had been working very hard and believed that the voters knew her better now.
"I have been going from door-to-door and have heard a lot of complaints from people about the government and I am very confident of winning this time," she said.
Norliza, 41, said the voters knew that the Barisan government had delivered so much and they would be benefiting much more if she won the election.
She said there was almost no issue for the Opposition in Selat Klang as she had been working with the political leaders and grassroots to resolve most issues over the last four years.
"Almost all the villages in Selat Klang have been provided with good roads and I have solved many other issues, including the long-lasting low water pressure problem," Norliza said.
"Selat Klang has experienced tremendous change and the voters are fully aware of the fact that only Barisan could provide sustainable growth," she said
Based on her track record, Norliza said she was confident of a victory with a much bigger majority. --The Star
