Motorcyclist hit on the mouth by golf ball

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: A man received a 'kiss' of an unexpected kind when he was hit on the mouth by a golf ball while riding his motorcycle from the Sprint toll plaza towards Kuala Lumpur about 1.45pm yesterday.

Cheong Tuck Sang, 49, said the sharp pain nearly caused him to lose balance and was shocked to see a golf ball had fallen into his motorcycle basket.

According to Cheong, he traced the golf ball to the Public Services Golf Club (KGPA) nearby, but the club manager was reluctant to acknowledge the ball came from the club.

"When the manager took me round the compound, I discovered there was no safety net around the third hole of the golf course to prevent these heavy golf balls from going out of the course."

Cheong, who received more than 15 stitches on his lower lip, lodged a police report.

He sought the help of Datuk Michael Chong, head of the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, to take legal action against KGPA for reimbursement of his medical fees and compensation.

"We will immediately inform the relevant authority, the MBPJ, before someone else gets hurt or killed," Chong said, adding that the MBPJ should check to see if the place was a public hazard.
