SIBU: A veteran member of DAP's Sibu branch suffered a heart attack during a ceramah here on Tuesday night and is in critical condition.

Seventy-four-year old Wong Sing Hung complained of chest pain while helping out at the ceramah attended by about 1,000 people at a coffeeshop at 8.30pm.

He was rushed to a nearby specialist medical centre and was transferred to the Sibu General Hospital yesterday morning.

DAP Sarawak chairman Richard Wong Ho Leng said that the member, who also had hypertension, was in a critical condition.

"We are saddened by the incident. He's a dedicated member, always helping out in our activities. Even at his age, he helped erect billboards during the current campaign and at our nightly ceramah, he goes around selling the Rocket (party newsletter)," said Richard, a candidate for the Sibu parliamentary seat and the incumbent Bukit Assek assemblyman.
