TANAH RATA, MALAYSIA - Returning home late from work, a tour guide asked his wife for a divorce.

Bad move.

The man received a sizzling hot response when she snapped and splashed hot oil on him at their home here on Tuesday.

However, the housewife's anger dissipated on seeing her husband screaming and groaning in pain.

She sent him to the Tapah Hospital where he is being treated for burns on the face and body.

Following a report lodged by a relative of the 37-year-old victim, police have detained a 28-year-old woman under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

State CID deputy chief Supt Nordin Mustapha said the incident took place at the couple's home when the man returned from work about 11pm, and asked his wife for a divorce. The woman had suspected her husband of having an affair.

"We understand that the housewife least expected the man to ask for a divorce, despite the affair," Nordin told reporters yesterday.
