JOHOR BARU: Police here recovered RM300,000 worth of mobile phones in follow-up operations after two snatch thieves who are part of a gang specialising in cellphone thefts were arrested.

The suspects, aged 20 and 30, believed to be responsible for hundreds of cases, were detained in Jalan Meldrum in the city's central business district on Tuesday following a tip-off.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said interrogation led police to some 332 stolen mobile phones.

The gang mainly went for mobile phones because they could be easily disposed of. Police expect to pick up more members of the gang soon.

In an unrelated case, four foreigners responsible for a series of violent robberies were nabbed on Monday.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police arrested the four at a house in Kampung Semangat, Tampoi, thanks to information from the public.

"The foreigners, aged between 30 and 40, were responsible for robberies where the victims were often harmed," he said.
