MALACCA, MALAYSIA: The Malacca Special Welfare Unit (Pembela) will query the management of a company in Krubong, which failed to look into the welfare of an employee after she lost parts of her fingers in an accident here recently.

Special assistant to the Chief Minister, S. Mahavedan, said Pembela and the state Labour Department would visit the company here to verify the complaint.

"We want to know why there was no insurance coverage for the victim owing to the nature of her job," he told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday.

Mahadevan was highlighting the case of 41-year-old A. Mageswary from Gadek, who crushed three of her fingers in an industrial accident in February this year.

Mageswary said the accident happened when a metal sheet fell on her hand and crushed three of her fingers while working in a metal window frame factory.

"All I remember was yelling in pain before passing out. I regained consciousness about an hour later and realised I was at the same spot without being treated for my injuries," she said.

She said that no one from her workplace bothered to help her or send her to Malacca Hospital for treatment.

"Fortunately, another factory worker who felt sorry for me, took me to the hospital. I was shocked when I found out later that the company had no insurance coverage for me," she said.

The mother of four had been employed at the factory for more than a year.

She had to fork out RM200 for two follow-up sessions at the hospital.

Mageswary, who is on two months medical leave, said she was also seeking compensation and assistance from Socso.
