SEPANG, MALAYSIA: Police found the charred remains of a couple in a badly burnt car in an oil palm estate along Km3.65 of the KLIA-LCCT highway late last night.

Sepang CID chief ASP Zaihairul Idrus said that police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Anyone found guilty under this section faces the death penalty.

"About 8pm (yesterday), a passer-by saw the burning car and alerted the Fire and Rescue Department.

"After the firemen had put out the fire, they found the two bodies in the boot compartment of the car," ASP Zaihairul said.

Sources said that the man's body, which was half burnt, had wounds in the hands, legs and neck.

The other body, the sources added, was totally burnt and had wounds in her legs.

According to ASP Zaihairul, the car - a Honda Accord 2.0 - was reported stolen from Cheras on April 17.

He said that the owner of the car had been robbed of his vehicle near his house by two men who were armed with parang.
