Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - A RM10 (S$4) bet took the life of a 13-year-old student who was washed away by strong currents in a monsoon drain in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, reported China Press.

The daily reported that a friend had earlier dared Zhou Ye Hou to check out the depth of a monsoon drain for a bet of RM10.

It was raining heavily when Zhou jumped into the 3m-deep water and he was washed away in the June 3 incident, reported the daily.

Worse, his three friends, all 13, who witnessed the incident, only related the matter three days later after being interrogated by Zhou's parents.

One of them known only as Jason said they were afraid they would get into trouble for telling what happened.

Zhou's body was found five days later at a mine, a few kilometres from the monsoon drain. -- The Star/ANN.
