KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - The police report lodged against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is an attempt to divert the people's attention from the fuel price crisis that is affecting the country, PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa said.

He said the Barisan Nasional government was now trying to create sensational issues after facing pressure for its failure to administer the country.

'We are confident that the people will not be easily influenced by the re-enactment of an 'old script' being played by new actors and stories that have been recycled in a sensational way and said to be strengthened by so-called evidence.

'An independent public investigation committee should be formed to look into this serious allegation,' Nasharuddin told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
