Lorry with smuggled beef topples over

JOHOR BARU: A lorry carrying smuggled frozen beef toppled over and damaged five vehicles at the state Customs Department headquarters here.

Johor Customs director Mohd Subre Ishak said the mishap, which occurred about 10.30am on Monday, damaged four cars and a motorcycle.

?At that time, the lorry was unmanned. It suddenly slid and toppled over,? he said, adding that the department would investigate.

The lorry, along with its contents, was placed at the headquarters after officers foiled a smuggling attempt recently.

Mohd Subre said a crane was used to lift up the lorry, and the frozen beef was later destroyed at a dumpsite in Seelong.

Asked whether the vehicle owners would be compensated, Mohd Subre said the department would have to conclude investigations first.

He said no one was injured during the incident.
