KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: A rally planned in front of the Kampung Baru mosque yesterday to protest the fuel price increase did not materialise, as police did not allow any gathering at the venue.

However, two PKR Youth members, Khairul Anwar and Mohd Haidir, who used loudhailers to announce a change in venue for a major anti-fuel hike rally tomorrow, were detained by the police.

According to Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman, the two were taken to the district police headquarters for questioning, and detained for creating public disorder and traffic congestion.

In Johor Baru, around 300 people from Pakatan Rakyat, carrying placards and banners protesting the petrol price increase, gathered outside Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman's office to hand over a memorandum.

Only Johor PAS Youth Chief Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil was allowed to enter the compound. He handed over the memorandum to a government officer after being told Abdul Ghani was not around.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaakob said the protesters dispersed peacefully after about 90 minutes.
