KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan has sent a letter of demand to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim demanding an apology and a retraction of his statement accusing him of fabricating evidence relating to the 'black eye' incident in 1998.

It is learnt that Musa, who is also seeking a compensation of RM5mil from Anwar for defaming him, has given the PKR de facto leader 48 hours to do so - failing which Musa reserves the right to sue him for defamation.

The 48 hours expires today.

The demand notice was made through Musa's solicitors, The Chambers of Kamarul Hisham and Hasnol Rezua, and was served on Anwar on Friday.

Anwar had on July 1 lodged a police report alleging that he believed Musa and Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail were present in Bukit Aman on 20 September 1998 and knew about the assault by Tan Sri Rahim Noor on him.

Anwar also pointed out that Gani was the senior prosecutor assisting Mohtar in the prosecution against him while Musa was the Investigating Officer for his case.
