KUALA LUMPUR: Questions are emerging as to whether Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had been stripped naked or not when undergoing his medical examination.

Hospital Kuala Lumpur director Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain said the PKR leader was not asked to strip.

She said in a statement to Bernama yesterday that prior to the examination, two specialists had explained in detail the examination procedures to Anwar in the presence of his lawyer.

"Only after having obtained his written consent did they proceed with the examination.

"He was then examined by the two specialists who adhered to proper clinical procedures during the whole course of the examination.

"At no time was his decency violated."

Anwar, however, maintained that he was stripped naked and had his private parts examined.

"They measured me and examined me, front and back,? he said when meeting with PKR members at party headquarters in Petaling Jaya later yesterday.

He said the police should not ask for his DNA sample again as they had taken his blood samples many times when he was in prison for six years.

?I had my blood tested many times for sugar level, cholesterol. But now they said those were old DNA samples,? he added.

He said he went for medical examinations in 2000, 2001 and 2004.

All were done by Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Anwar?s lawyer R. Sivarasa said nobody could deny the fact that Anwar was stripped naked during the examination.

?That?s a fact. I don?t understand how they can deny the fact,? he said at the same event.

Siavarasa said Dr Zaininah had said Anwar was treated with decency.

?That is an opinion, a comment, but if you?re talking about a fact, and she tried to say that he was not stripped naked, then we say no,? he said.

Sivarasa said he would consider advising Anwar to give his DNA sample if the police could prove that the samples from Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had not been tampered with.

?Under Malaysian law, you don?t have to give a sample.?

He also said Anwar would continue giving his statement to the Anti-Corruption Agency in Putrajaya tomorrow.

After being arrested on Wednesday afternoon, Anwar, who has been accused of sodomy by his former aide, was taken to HKL by the police where he underwent a simple medical examination.

He, however, refused to give any samples for a DNA test to be conducted.
