Anwar feels vindicated

PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he felt vindicated by the medical report leaked on online news portals on Monday.

He urged the police to stop their investigations, hand over the investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers and to classify the case "no further action".

Speaking at a press at the PKR headquarters here yesterday, Anwar said the medical report from Hospital Pusrawi found no medical indication that Mohd Saiful had been sodomised.

"The failure of the police to disclose this medical report all but confirms their intention to frame me. Although quite apparent even before yesterday, their desperate attempt to collect a new DNA sample is now even more clearly a last-ditch effort to build a case where none exists," he said.

"How else can we fathom why the police during the last four weeks of their thorough and professional investigations have overlooked such a critical piece of evidence"

"I condemn in the strongest terms their negligence, dishonesty and recklessness in humiliating the nation by dragging us all through this vile and filthy charade."

Asked whether he anticipated that the authorities would challenge the authenticity of the medical report, Anwar said: "Thus far, nobody had challenged that report."

"Pusrawi took back the medical report saying that it's theirs. It was never denied. We've checked with various specialists, who readily confirmed it without doubt," he added.

Asked whether he was confident of winning if he contested the Kulim Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat, which could see a by-election depending on an election petition hearing next month, Anwar said: "If it's independent, sincere and fair, that is settled. I am confident, insyaallah, since it happens to be near my hometown."

On whether he was prepared to face the entire Barisan Nasional machinery, he said: "I'm aware Barisan will have the entire government resources at its disposal, but I've had discussions with PKR leaders and PAS leaders including president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak as well as DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, who is also Penang Chief Minister."

"They have given their commitment of support for me," he added.
