PARTI Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) yesterday approved a motion to safeguard Malaysian sovereignty by asking the government to monitor foreign investments in southern Johor - to prevent Singapore from realising its 'Greater Singapore' plan, and ensure 'elements from Singapore' do not invade Malaysian territories.
The motion, jointly raised by the PAS Youth wing and the Muar and North-west Johor divisions at the party's annual meeting, was unanimously carried without debate. While the Youth wing had over the years censured Singapore over issues such as Pedra Branca and hiccups in bilateral ties, this was the first time a motion involving the Republic was officially tabled and passed in the annual PAS meetings.
The contents of the motion, although titled 'Motion on the country's sovereignty', all pointed to PAS' unhappiness with Singapore over a range of issues. The motion said PAS must realise that an 'underground Singapore movement to form Greater Singapore was uncovered as a neo-colonialist plan to allow Singapore to control Iskandar Malaysia'. The latter is an investment zone in Johor.
