KUALA LUMPUR: In a troubled world, Englishman Paul Tyminski feels secure living in Malaysia.

He has been in Malaysia since July last year under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

"I went to school here in 1962 when my parents lived in Penang," said the 60-year-old divorcee.

Tyminski, a retired pilot, had flown haj flights from Indonesia for 10 years and had visited Malaysia regularly since 2000.

"I chose to live in Malaysia because of the people, the climate and the low cost of living. People in England always ask me why I live so far away. "Those who come here keep returning for holidays, especially during Christmas," he said.

Ken Shellito, a former Chelsea football player, now a football coach living in Kota Kinabalu with his Sabahan wife, Jeany, is also a happy man.

Shellito has been a permanent resident here since 2003.

"I like the slow pace of life in Sabah, unlike Kuala Lumpur with its highways and traffic jams."

He said the warm climate was good for his arthritis.

On Saturday, Tourism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ong Hong Peng opened the "ExpatExpo '08: Living in Malaysia", a two-day interactive expo at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre organised by The Expat Group.

He said Tourism Malaysia was committed to making the country the choice destination for tourists.
