DUNGUN: A man ran amok after his girlfriend rejected his marriage proposal on Sunday.

In the 9.30pm incident, the 23-year-old suspect was wielding a parang and shouting in front of his girlfriend's house in Jalan Bunga Raya, Lorong Dua here.

The woman, aged 22, had just returned home from work and was shocked to see the suspect.

She called police and a team of policemen from the Dungun police station rushed to the house and took an hour to calm down the suspect.

The woman had lodged a police report against the suspect a day earlier for threatening her after she rejected his marriage proposal.

The suspect was sent to Tampoi Hospital yesterday for psychiatric observation.
