KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Some of them got it wrong but only one sociopolitical blogger apologised to his readers for suggesting that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will defend his Umno president's post at the party's election in March.

Abdullah announced on Wednesday that he would not seek re-election and hoped to hand over the party leadership to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, should he contest and win the post.

Kuda Kepang blog owner Datuk Ruhanie Ahmad maintained that the information he received on Abdullah's "staying on" decision was not info jalanan, but he nevertheless apologised to his readers.

He said he had received the information at 3am on Wednesday.

He also claimed that he had info sahih of what happened between 9am and 3pm on the day Abdullah was to chair the Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting and announce his decision.

"However, I am still responsible for all the information posted here. With that, with all humility and sincerity, I seek forgiveness from all blog surfers for the early information posted here," the former Parit Sulong member of parliament said.

Meanwhile, other sociopolitical bloggers said they were glad they were wrong in their reporting, or speculation, on the matter.

Two of the blogs, Another Brick in the Wall and Big Dog's The Thirteen Million Plus Guy Rambles, put up yesterday's New Straits Times article "PM proves many bloggers wrong" as a posting.
