Know your equipment, military told
Fri, Oct 31, 2008
New Straits Times
>KUALA LUMPUR: The armed forces must constantly improve and upgrade their knowledge on the latest developments in military technology so that the equipment they are buying does not go to waste. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said at the same time, administrators must look after the welfare of armed forces personnel to maintain a high degree of morale among the nation's soldiers.

He said a thorough understanding of military hardware was essential in order to utilise it on the battlefield.

"If we buy something and only know how to use 10 of its 20 features, then it is a waste. We must be comprehensive in our knowledge," he said at the Defence Ministry's monthly assembly yesterday.

Abdullah, who is also defence minister, said while soldiers and officers were giving their best to defend the country, those in the ministry must ensure that their needs and those of their families were looked after.

"When the facilities are provided for and their needs are looked after, they will feel more responsible and motivated."
