BUKIT MERTAJAM, MALAYSIA: A Form Five student and a 10-year-old boy created history when they set two new Malaysian records by lifting weights using just two fingers.
T. Logassree, 17, lifted 41kg using just her pinkies while T. Thirilogan, 10, managed to lift 30kg using his middle fingers to both get into the Malaysian Book of Records.
Their feat was witnessed and confirmed by Malaysian weightlifting coach Stefan Stefanov, international weightlifting referee A. Ramasamy and the book's official Ricky Yap at SMK Bukit Mertajam.
Logassree is said to have smashed the world record after lifting 40kg weight using her pinkies.
The record is held by a male athlete but the attempt could not be confirmed by Malaysian weightlifting officials.
Central Seberang Prai Weightlifting Association chairman Mohd Azam Ariffin said they would submit documents and visuals to the office of the World Guinness Book of Records for official confirmation. However, the two feats would be recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records, he added.
Logassree, who won a silver medal in the clean and jerk category in this year's Sukma Games in Terengganu, said she could not wait to see her name in the Malaysian Book of Records as she had been training for it over the past six months.
"I am very happy that all my efforts over the past six months had paid off. In fact, I cannot wait to smash my own record," she said, adding that she will go all out in training after completing her SPM.
Thirilogan said he was nervous initially but gained confidence after his first attempt at 20kg was successful. --THE STAR
