JOHOR BARU: About 30 Mat Rempit wreaked havoc at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital when they fought with eight friends of an accident victim.
Several policemen in three police patrol cars had to be rushed to the hospital at 3.50am yesterday to break up the fight which resulted in six men, aged 20 and 40, being arrested.
The incident began when the gang of Mat Rempit was involved in an accident with a 42-year-old man and his friends on the Inner Ring Road at 2.20am.
The man died at the hospital from severe head injuries. The two groups fought while seeking treatment.
Johor acting CID chief Asst Comm Che Yusoff Che Ngah said the Mat Rempit group and the victim's friends blamed each other for causing the accident.
"We will investigate the matter as we have yet to ascertain how the accident occurred," he said, adding the case had been classified under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
In a separate incident, a man was stabbed to death and his accomplice assaulted after a suspected drug deal went bad.
The 26-year-old man died on the spot from injuries inflicted with a sharp object while his 27-year-old friend was rushed to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment following a fight at Taman Mawar, Pasir Gudang, at 12.30am.
A task force has been formed to track down three suspects.
