Rude shock for bank customers

PORT DICKSON, MALAYSIA: Customers at a Maybank branch in town were sent scurrying for cover yesterday when a car crashed through the glass panels of the bank yesterday.

However, nobody was hurt in the 12.30pm incident which was believed to have occurred when the driver of the car stepped on the accelerator pedal of the Perodua Myvi with too much force.

The 20-year-old polytechnic student and his friend were about to leave the compound of the bank after making a transaction when the incident took place.

District police chief Superintendent Mazlan Othman said the driver and passenger were in a state of shock but were not hurt in the incident.

"We believe the driver had accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal with great force and caused the vehicle to crash into the bank.

"The impact shattered the glass panels," he said.

Mazlan said other customers of the bank helped the driver and his passenger out of the vehicle, adding that bank operations were not affected.
