Giant baby sets record at hospital

ALOR STAR, Malaysia: The stork has delivered a whopping 5.32kg baby at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, the biggest baby ever delivered at the hospital since it opened last year.

The infant, dubbed "little giant" by nurses there, was delivered through a Caesarean section at 1.33am on Friday.

Both baby and mother, Sumairah Fakrolrazi, 25, are in good condition.

Sumairah, a nurse at the hospital's maternity ward, said she was pleasantly surprised with the "record" set by her child, the second of two boys. Her first child is 17 months old.

"The doctors said he would weigh about 3.5kg, but he's almost twice as heavy."

Sumairah said she and her husband, Mohd Hafiz Othman, 30, a technician, planned to name their baby Mohd Hazim.

The biggest baby delivered at a government hospital in recent years was a baby girl weighing 5.35kg. She was born at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru last month.
