KEPALA BATAS (Malaysia): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the violence that erupted at the Seremban Umno division delegates' meeting yesterday was shameful. He said disciplinary action would definitely be taken against those involved.

He said such action within the party was not only confined to those involved in money politics.

"I understand that someone was also injured. A police report should be lodged. The culprits can be charged under the Penal Code."

Abdullah, who is also Umno president, said the Seremban Umno delegates should have controlled themselves and conducted the meeting properly.

He said their failure to do so had led to the violence and caused the meeting to be postponed.

"I hope the meeting will proceed smoothly when it is held again," he said during a break at the Kepala Batas Umno division delegates' meeting here.

In the midst of the press conference, Abdullah called Negri Sembilan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to get more details of what had happened.

They spoke for several minutes and Abdullah later said a full report of the incident would be prepared for further action.

Abdullah was asked to comment on the ruckus which erupted at the Seremban Umno divisional meeting when a fight broke out, resulting in two delegates getting injured.

In Putrajaya, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Seremban Umno division meeting had been postponed to next week and it would be handled by the party headquarters.

He said the decision for the headquarters to mediate was taken yesterday.

On another matter, Tengku Adnan said action could be taken against those who lodged police reports against him as he was just carrying out the directives of the Umno headquarters.

He said he would bring up this issue at the next party management meeting.

"All those divisions, which have lodged reports, will face disciplinary action."
