KUALA LUMPUR: The new management of Pempena agrees that the Tourism Malaysia subsidiary needs to be revamped but does not have an immediate action plan to recoup losses from past investments.

In a press conference Wednesday, its executive chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun said the company, based on a business review report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), would be rectifying the problems caused by the previous management.

"We have had a series of meetings. I won?t state how we are going to proceed. We are doing something based on what PwC has recommended," she said, declining to reveal details of the audit firm's report.

Chew also welcomed DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang's decision to lodge a police report on Pempena's alleged misuse of funds.?

"Lim can make any report he wants. By all means, let the police investigate," she said.

She also asserted that as executive chairman, she was not provided with a company car by Pempena nor did the company plan to purchase a new car for her.

"I am using my personal car for official duties. I am very sad that Lim continues to harp on the same issue with regards to my employment in Pempena," she said.

She added that her post as executive chairman had no conflict with her position as Wanita MCA chief.

She explained that the new management of Pempena led by her was put in place in May as a move to resolve issues. One of the measures adopted since was to appoint PwC to review the company.

"An internal audit was undertaken by the Tourism Ministry and Tourism Malaysia at the same time," she said.
