>PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA: Nearly three-quarters of all money politics complaints are "not genuine". Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor made the assertion yesterday to put a stop to accusations of vote buying in the run-up to party elections in March.

"Of course, we will take action against those who are involved in money politics.

"But if people report just to khianat (sabotage) or fitnah (slander), we will also take action. Umno will expel them.

"If you have proof that money politics is rampant in Umno, come to us and report it.

"But do not go out in the open, in the media, and rubbish Umno, giving everyone the impression that the party is corrupt."

He said it was not fair for former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to name those alleged to be engaged in money politics on his blog.

"You cannot simply reveal it on the blog. There are procedures," he said, adding that Dr Mahathir should hand the reports to the party's disciplinary board and leave it at that.

"What if the person is innocent?" he asked.

Mahathir had said that he would forward a list of incidents of money politics to the disciplinary board and the Anti-Corruption Agency.

However, he said if no action was taken, he would publish the list on his blog.
