KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA -The search for the missing Sri Lankan maid at Bukit Antarabangsa has been called off.
The stop order was given at 2pm yesterday after sonar equipment and a dog unit scanning a five-metre radius area around the house came up with nothing.
Lourdes Mary is the maid to Dr N. Yogeswari who died in the tragedy.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar told a press conference that the chance of finding the body without excavating the entire area was slim.
He said it was likely the woman was dead.
DCP Khalid said a small team would be stationed at the site to assist affected residents retrieve valuables and important documents from their homes.
About 400 police personnel are stationed at the site for security and to control traffic in Bukit Antarabangsa.
DCP Khalid said residents of No. 1 to 45 in the first block of houses along Jalan Wangsa 11 were now free to return to their homes after the Public Works Department gave the go-ahead.
"But the end part of the first block and the second block are still closed," he said.
DCP Khalid urged residents who have been told to evacuate to be patient and wait for safety checks by the PWD and Ikram to be concluded.
He warned that Jalan Wangsa 9 situated directly on top of the landslide area could collapse at any time.
He urged residents who want to visit their homes to collect passes from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council counter along Jalan Bukit Antarabangsa.
A timetable of residents who can go in and out of the area has been put up but it was not used for the time being, he added.
