>NIBONG TEBAL, MALAYSIA - The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 12-year-old Nornizaha Abdul Rahman ended on a tragic note yesterday. Her charred remains were found in some bushes 300 metres from her home in Kampung Besar.
The disabled girl's body was found with almost 80 per cent burns.
Police have ruled out foul play and classified the case as sudden death.
An initial examination of the body by police suggests that Nornizaha's raincoat may have accidentally caught fire while she was burning leaves in the bushes.
Police believe she had tried to seek help but had collapsed a few metres from the spot and burnt to death.
Nornizaha, who was deaf and mute, had sneaked out of her home about 2.30pm on Tuesday. A neighbour had spotted her wearing a raincoat as it was raining at the time.
She was also carrying a bottle which was later found to have contained petrol. It is believed that the petrol was kept for her father's grass cutter.
Abdul Rahman Mohamad, 58, said he noticed his daughter's disappearance when he returned from work about 3pm.
Rahman, who works as a security guard, then mounted a search party comprising family members and neighbours.
They searched for Nornizaha in the village and surrounding bushes until 3am yesterday but failed to locate her.
